Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) holds the distinction of being the largest international cargo airport in North America and, as of 2022, it is recognized as the world's most connected airport. Given our business focus on connectivity, selecting ORD as the location for the AFKL group's third cargo hub was a logical decision.
Since November 2020, ORD has experienced a significant upsurge in network capacity and cargo volumes. The demand for freight has notably increased in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, aerospace, chemicals, and e-commerce cargo. With this sustained growth, the necessity for long-term expansion of full-freighter supply became increasingly apparent.
To meet rising demand and ensure the robustness of our operational processes in order to fulfill business potential, expansion was imperative. However, intelligent development is required for expansion, which is why we have made substantial investments in both infrastructure and resources at our ORD hub.
Following a meticulous six-month renovation period, the capacity of our Chicago warehouse has grown by a substantial 40%. This expansion has been complemented by streamlining our operational processes and reevaluating the safety compliance of our warehouse. These measures have optimized the efficiency of AFKLMP Cargo's ORD hub, enabling us to meet freight demands worldwide.
With increased capacity and enhanced operational efficiency, our customers can expect expedited service while enjoying the convenience of sending larger volumes of cargo effortlessly. Furthermore, the augmented capacities for pharmaceutical shipments, as well as a 60% increase in ACT container plugs, allow us to handle specialized cargo, including that transported by other airlines.
After a preliminary opening on 6 June, AFKLMP Cargo's ORD warehouse officially commenced operations on 28 June. With these advancements in operations and capacity, combined with ORD's existing status as one of the world's most well-connected airports, AFKLMP Cargo's Chicago hub serves as a valuable and competitive asset within our air-freight network.
